CermaKrome Exhaust System Coatings

CERMAKROME - Exhaust System Coatings
The Highest Performing, Most Widely Used Chrome Exhaust Coating Available

CermaKrome (MCX) is a metallic ceramic coating capable of providing extremely high levels of corrosion and chemical protection in a very thin film while producing a very high luster, near chrome appearance. When applied to exhaust systems, MCX will withstand substrate temperatures of over 1300F and environmental temperatures of up to 1600F (higher temperatures with a base coat or double coating). In addition, the direct flame will not cause delamination as long as substrate temperatures do not exceed this temperature. Due to its unique ceramic nature, the coating also functions as a very effective thermal barrier, with reduced thermal radiation characteristics. Requires a 500F cure, with maximum hardness achieved with a 650F cure. After curing, the coating requires burnishing to be sealed. This burnishing process can produce a very high luster, near chrome, appearance. MCX cures out to a very hard surface with excellent adhesion. The water-based solvent system provides for an environmentally friendly material with a bake/cure cycle that is not as hazardous as other thermally cured resin systems.

  • Protective to over 1300F Base Metal Temperature
    • Maintains adhesion at environmental temperatures up to 2000F.
  • Designed for single coat coverage (.001_ to .0015_)
    • Can be applied in a thicker film without cracking or flaking (.0018_ to .0020_).
  • High Corrosion Resistance
    • 6500 Hour Salt Spray ASTM B117.
  • May be applied over MCS to withstand higher substrate temperatures.
  • Water based, non flammable, no V.O.C.s.
    • Requires oven curing at 500F for 1 hour.
    • Easy cleanup with water.

Part #MCX available in Quart & Gallon.

CERMAKROME Low Humidity Formula

CermaKrome Low Humidity Formula (MCX-LH) has all the characteristics of MCX above and is formulated for improved application in low humidity environments with additives for improved flow and to prevent hard packing of the solids.

  • Water based, non flammable, no V.O.C.s.
    • Requires oven curing at 500F for 1 hour.
    • Easy cleanup with water.

Part #MCX-LH available in Quart & Gallon.

Part #MCX-LH-F is also for low humidity environments with anti-foaming additives. Available in Gallon.

    APPLICATION:

Ready to spray no thinning needed (may be thinned with distilled or deionized water) STIR AND SHAKE WELL BEFORE USE BEST TO MIX IN A BLENDER

    1. ALL PARTS MUST BE ABSOLUTELY FREE OF ALL OILS, GREASE, MOISTURE, DUST, SCALE OR CORROSION. Clean metal using standard cleaning methods with Columbia Coatings Super Degreaser (SD-MTO25)  Sandblast parts (ONLY WHEN DRY) with 10X EpiX Blasting Media MP 70/100 Grit (EPIX), or 120 grit aluminum oxide.

    2. Clean all parts using acetone, M.E.K., or similar material. DO NOT USE petroleum based solvents.

    3. Apply coating in light fog passes to achieve a thickness of .001" to .0015". Minimum part temperature should be 65F, if below warm up part. Spray all hard to reach areas first.

    4. Inspect part for complete coverage. Part should be a light green color.

    5. Immediately dry coating in an environment of from 100F to 150F. Part should change to a chalk white.

    6. Bake part at a temperature of at least 500F. for one (1) hour. Time starts when part reaches bake temperature.

    7. If a second coat is desired, lightly blast at 25/30 psi, re-spray, dry and bake.

    8. To polish either lightly blast with #12 glass bead, then polish with fine steel wool/polishing compound, or vibratory polish. Metallic Ceramic Coating. Polishes out To a Chrome-like Finish
