MCS INSULATING COATING
MCS is a ceramic reinforced coating capable of providing extremely high levels of insulation and chemical protection in very thin films. Designed to be used as a base coat for CermaKrome (MCX) and other Tech Line coatings. It is to be used either as a base coat on the outside diameter or as a standalone coating on the inside diameter. MCS as a base coat allows CermaKrome to be used in applications where normal metallic ceramic coatings will not maintain adhesion. In independent testing, CermaKrome applied over MCS, maintained adhesion with exhaust temperatures over 1800F with no significant dulling of the highly polished surface. When applied to exhaust systems, MCS is capable of withstanding substrate temperatures of over 1800F (EGTs of over 2000F), in addition, the direct flame will not cause delamination as long as substrate temperatures do not exceed this temperature. Due to its unique ceramic nature, the coating functions as a very effective thermal barrier, with reduced thermal radiation characteristics. MCS does not have good corrosion resistance and should not be used as a standalone outside diameter coating.
Primarily used as an insulating coating.
- Extreme temperature capable (over 2000F).
- Survives cyclic heating and cooling.
- Improves exhaust gas velocity, which can lead to an increase in horsepower.
May be used as a base coat for other Tech Line coatings to increase the temperature that the top coating can withstand.
- Requires etching prior to top coating.
- Increases the temperature that CermaKrome (MCX) can experience, without dulling.
Water-based, easy cleanup, no VOCs.
- A water-based solvent system provides for an environmentally friendly material with a bake/cure cycle that is not as hazardous as other thermally cured resin systems.
- Requires oven curing at 500F for one hour. Maximum hardness achieved with a 650F cure.
- Cures out to a very hard surface with excellent adhesion.
APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS
- STIR AND SHAKE WELL BEFORE USE
- ALL PARTS MUST BE ABSOLUTELY FREE OF ALL OILS, GREASE, MOISTURE, DUST, SCALE OR CORROSION. SANDBLAST ALL PARTS. (120 GRIT AL. OXIDE OR SIMILAR)
- Clean all parts using acetone, M.E.K., or similar material.DO NOT USE petroleum based solvents.
- Apply coating in light fog passes to achieve a thickness of .001" to .0015". Minimum part temperature should be 65f, if below warm up part. Spray all hard to reach areas first.
- Inspect part for complete coverage.
- Immediately dry coating in an environment of from 100f to 150f. Part should change to a flat GRAY/BLACK.
- Bake part at a temperature of at least 500f. for one (1) hour. Time starts when part reaches bake temperature.
- Before applying a top coat, lightly Al. Oxide blast at 25/30 psi re-spray, dry and bake. CLEAN UP: Clean equipment with water.
DANGER: NON- Flammable.
HEALTH HAZARD INFORMATION: Wear an approved mask to protect against air-born particles and vapors. Inhalation of vapors can lead to drying of the sinus and nasal membranes. If in contact with skin wash with soap and water. In the event of any severe reaction get medical attention. Do not ingest. KEEP AWAY FROM CHILDREN. Danger: Do not breathe vapors or mists from spraying. Avoid contact with skin and eyes. Use with adequate ventilation to maintain exposure levels below established exposure limits (see MSDS). If required wear an appropriate NIOSH approved respirator with paint pre-filter. READ DATA SHEET AND M.S.D.S. BEFORE USING
