BLACK SATIN EXTREME THERMAL BARRIER

Black Satin (BHK) is a ceramic reinforced thermal barrier coating originally designed to handle reentry temperatures for space vehicles. It has been modified for easy application to automotive exhaust components. When applied to exhaust systems, BHK will remain color stable at exhaust gas temperatures up to 1600�F. Due to its unique ceramic nature, the coating also functions as a very effective thermal barrier, handling exhaust gas temperatures up to 2000�F, while reducing thermal radiation. The coating cures to a very hard, durable surface with excellent adhesion. BHK is designed to be cured in an industrial oven. Corrosion and chemical resistance is only achieved after the coating reaches a full cure. Black Satin can be used to determine exhaust component metal temperatures as it experiences several color changes as base metal temperatures ramp up from 1000�F to 2000�F. This can be a tuning aid.

  • Oven curing recommended. Recommend full cure at 700�F for one hour for chemical, moisture, and corrosion resistance.
  • Solvent-based. Easy cleanup with Acetone or similar.
• Designed for single coat coverage
  • Can be applied over a base primer such as PrevCor, MCS, or HHBK to increase corrosion resistance, withstand higher temperatures, or increase thermal barrier characteristics.
